DescriptionThis wrought iron axe head was recovered from the Winnipeg River (Boundary Falls) in Ontario in 1966. It bears a maker's mark of 3 dots over the stamped letters "B A R". The current interpretation for these objects is that they sank to the bottom of the river during canoe accidents. In the fur trade context, axes were sold and exchanged both to fur traders and to Indigenous individuals and communities in exchange for furs and food.
