This crystal skull was apparently an amulet that was attached to a string by a pair holes found on each side of the skull.  Although crystals are found in ritual deposits in ancient Mesoamerica, a crystal skull has never been found in a secure archaeological context.  Stylistically, this skull fits with the Late Postclassic period, but there is a large production of skulls today for the New Age market.
