DescriptionThis small ashtray, by Kjeld and Erica Deichmann, is a wonderful example of the whimsical approach that they brought to some of their work. The mermaid here appears to be rising out of an ocean of glaze. The Deichmanns were prominent and influential Canadian potters, one of the first craft studios in the country who were able to make a living solely from craft production.
