DescriptionWith a moulded beaver finial and relief ornament of beavers and maple leaves, this was a popular Brantford Pottery design produced in conjunction with the celebration in 1892 of Canada’s first twenty-five years as a nation. The 1890s saw an intense surge in Canadian nationalism, and this teapot attests to how firmly imbedded the symbolic connotations of the beaver and maple leaf had become in the Canadian patriotic spirit, both anglophone and francophone though, admittedly, often with quite different meanings.
