DescriptionA New England type, this four-drawer desk has two pull-out slides to support the framed lid. The Chippendale bracketed base has a beaded moulding on three sides, and the skirt includes a floral inlay in the centre. The sides, in the New England manner, are single wide planks rather than panelling and are joined to the top with exposed dovetailing. The hardware is replacement of original wooden or brass knobs. This piece shows the strong New England influence prevalent by the late 18th century, even on Quebec rural furniture.
