DescriptionThese scenes of First Nations Peoples on Canada’s Pacific coast are based on illustrations in The Voyage of La Pérouse Round the World, in the Years 1785, 1786, 1787, and 1788, published in Paris in 1797 and in London in 1798. The expedition of Jean-François Galaup, Comte de La Pérouse (1741-1788), followed upon the explorations of Captain James Cook with the purpose of expanding French colonial territory in the region of the Pacific Ocean. In 1786, he mapped the west coast of North America.
