Lid of box used to contain shabtis or funerary figurines to aid with labour in the Afterlife. As typical for this type of box, the top of the lid is decorated with a representation of a single boat under sail on a black strip of water. The hull and mast are painted yellow, while the steering oar is red and the sail is dark. The boat representation is likely connected with the pilgrimage of the deceased to Abydos, a site sacred to the god Osiris which would aid the deceased to associate with this god and join the ranks of the blessed dead in the Afterlife. Two holes with cylindrical dowels attach the lid to the box. These dowels, broken in centre, remain imbedded in the wood, ends projecting.
