Description The beautiful egg-shape of this container was chosen to show off the banded pattern of the travertine, and the craftsman’s skill in making something so elegantly smooth and thin-walled.  The long thin neck is a separate piece, and while it fits perfectly, there is a possibility that it is not original, and may not entirely reflect the artist’s intention.  Most similar containers from the Middle Kingdom show a wider, thinner rim.
