Example of Flinders Petrie's 'decorated ware' are characterized by red painted decoration on a pale orange surface. This globular jar with a modelled rim is without handles and stands on a flat base. It was likely found in a grave and may have held water for the deceased in the Afterlife. Geometric designs dominate decorated ware. The painted decoration on this vessel forms a series of panels separated by wavy lines. The first register under the rim contains a series of eight panels containing spirals. A second register has a further eight panels with spirals separated by groups of six vertical wavy lines. The lower register has a series of horizontal wavy lines with diagonal intersecting bands of three wavy lines. The surface is worn in places and has some white encrustation.
