Description

This statue is a modern forgery depicting the goddess Sekhmet.  Sekhmet was associated with war and medicine and fertility, and is a popular subject for fakes.

It is easy to see that this is a modern piece as she was cast using the modern technique of multiple, reusable moulds rather than the ancient lost-wax process. The modern process left casting seams along her sides which the forger attempted to remove by filing.

Moreover, the facial featres are ill defined, and there is no suggestion of her linen tunic.  The golden colour of the modern bronze is beginning to appear through the bogus dark green patina.
