This thin-walled, elegant bowl was carved of a fine green-grey siltstone, a stone quarried in the Wadi Hamamat, of which the early Dynastic carvers seemed particularly fond. 

Such bowls have been found in early Dynastic burials, either as part of the funeral repast, or as containers for the eternal nourishment of the dead.
