Description
These glyphs once formed part of an inscription carved
onto the doorpost of a temple to the god Osiris at Abydos. The cartouche reads “Kheper-ka-re’ which, was
the throne name of the Twelfth Dynasty king, Senwosret I. The signs beneath the cartouche spell out the
name and the beginning of one of the epithets of the god:
Usir, Khenty -[Imentiu] : Osiris, foremost [of Westerners]. The West was considered to be the land of
the dead, where Osiris ruled.
