DescriptionThis model of a bunch of grapes was found in the earliest temple at Abydos by Wm. Matthew Flinders Petrie, in an area he considered to be a ‘rubbish hole’ or even a latrine. The blue-green glaze has almost entirely worn off this moulded faience piece, and there is nothing to show whether was a votive object in its own right, or an inlay. A number of other pieces of faience fruit were found in the same area.
Object History: Excavated by the Egypt Exploration Society, 1900-1902
