Description

Among the more common offerings to Hathor were images in clay or faience of naked women lying on beds. Geraldine Pinch lists them as Type 6 of Fertility Figurines in her study, Votive Offerings to Hathor. This crudely made human figure lying on her back on a bed seems to belong to that genre. The figure is 7 cm long and 2.5 cm wide at the chest. The head is made of a round ball of clay with slashes indicating the eyes and mouth. The body is rudimentary with the arms lying straight at the sides of the figure. The legs are straight with the feet projecting up. The bed is rectangular with rounded corners. The back is very rough. Three of the original four legs of the bed are missing. Unlike many of the other figures of women on beds, this one has no child beside her.
