This fragment of raised relief from the 11th Dynasty Temple of Nebhepetre Montuhotep from Deir el Bahari comes from a nautical scene and shows the top of a sail, possibly the topping lifts of a sail which has not been raised.  This would have been an image of large travelling  or cargo vessel.

The sail was patterned or possibly made in squares which were then sewn together.  A square at the bottom left has a star.
