The ancient Egyptians used needle and thread to embroider or construct their garments in the same way as we do today. Needles were made of various materials, such as wood, bone, copper, bronze. Although many ancient needles are larger than their modern counterparts, this metal example had a very minute eye indicating that it was used for extremely fine sewing. This thin bronze needle broken off where the eye would have been. The shaft is pointed at the other end. The needle is slightly oval in section. The surface is corroded.
