Description

This somewhat heavy and ungainly jar was nevertheless made with considerable skill from three pieces of stone fitted together. The original lid or stopper is long gone, as are the contents; such jars have been found in burial contexts and filled with oils or fats.

It appears to be a Saite or other very Late Period copy of an Archaic or Old Kingdom type in which the lugs would have been drilled and functional.
