Description

This worn and stained scraboid amulet is made of lapis lazuli, which had to be imported to Meroe, originally from Afghanistan.  It would have been a valuable possession.  There are fine lines marking the head and back of the beetle, and considerable care went into fashioning it.  It was a valuable object, probaby a prized possession, to be left in a grave.

The scarab is pierced longitudinally for stringing, and a piece of rusty wire remains in the hole.
