DescriptionPart of a wooden tomb model of a type popular in undecorated tombs during the First Intermediate Period and Middle Kingdom. Possibly part of a bakery scene representing a pile of fancy breads, looking a bit like bagels. Presumably meant to be stood vertically, this cylindrical object is hollow with a round dowel hole (5 mm in diameter) on base. The top has a rounded edge with a wider squarish opening (1 x 1 cm). Four horizontal carved grooves divide the outer surface into five relatively equal rings (6-8 mm in width). Traces of white gesso appear all over outer surface. There are holes and a large gash on the worn outer surface.
