Description

These are part of a complete outfit that was given to T.H. Gooch on the occasion of his being inducted as Honorary Chief of the Tsuu T'ina (Sarcee) tribe. Mr. Gooch was a Vice-President of The Canada Life Assurance Company. The ceremony, held at the "Banff Springs Conference", was presided over by Tsuu T'ina chiefs Little Chief and Starlight, as well as Tsuu T'ina "Medicine Man" Chief Weasel Foot and Stoney "Medicine Man" Chief Walking Buffalo. The latter two ceremonially dressed Mr. Gooch in this outfit. A scarlet-coated RCMP officer also took part in the ceremony. The Chicken Dance and the Circle Dance were performed. The above information is found in the Canada Life Newsletter, July 1963. The outfit is attributed to the Stoney rather than the Tsuu T'ina based on stylistic considerations.
