Studio photo of Evelyn H.C. Johnson, (Eva) (1856-1937). On the back is written "To Mama from her affectionate daughter January 21st 1873 Eva Johnson "A Birthday present"". Evelyn Johnson was sister to E. Pauline Johnson, poet, author, and performer. Their parents were Chief George H.M. Johnson, Mohawk (Haudenosaunee/Iroquois), and Emily (Howells) Johnson, an English woman.

In the early 20th century, Evelyn H.C. Johnson donated to the Royal Ontario Museum a large number of objects named the Chiefswood Collection after the name of the Johnson family home. In this collection, Evelyn Johnson created a remarkable record of her family over four generations, and of events that involved the Iroquoian people at Six Nations from the end of the American Revolution to the Six Nations Agricultural Fair of 1922.
