DescriptionAfter studies in Braunschweig and Berlin Gerhard Schliepstein began his career as a sculptor working in bronze and ceramic, he also designed furniture with sculptural elements. He is best known for his ceramic sculptures that he produced for the Rosenthal Company during his association with them that lasted from 1925 to 1937. The two figures here are typical of his works in white porcelain whose attenuated expressive shapes were inspired by the works of sculptors Wilhelm Lehmbruck (1881-1919) and Georg Minne (186-1941).
