DescriptionSt. Modestos, Abbot of the monastery of St. Theodor in Palestine, was chosen to organize the rebuilding of the churches burned by Chosroes II of Persia. In the year 614 he was invited to Jerusalem to lead the project. In 630 he was consecrated Patriarch of Jerusalem, but he died the same year. The earliest known images of St. Modestos as Bishop of Jerusalem dating from the 11th century depict him in bishop's vestments as this example does.
