DescriptionThe Tang-style Buddha continued to be used with only minor changes in later centuries. As a rule, the Buddha is depicted in a simple monk's habit without jewelry. The Vairochana Buddha bedecked with jewels is a rare exception, and shows influence of Tibetan-style, esoteric Buddhism. The different hand gesture (mudra) has a specific meaning, this Buddha makes the gesture of the Victor of the Three Worlds.
