DescriptionThis seated Buddha is seated on a grass-covered cushion on a low pedestal, meditating in lotus position with eyes nearly closed. His robe covers both shoulders with prominent folds falling around body, hands resting in lap with palms up in gesture of meditation: "dhyana mudra." On the pedestal in relief are corinthian columns framing a symmetrical arrangement of five seated meditating Buddhas, separated by "sala" trees (the sacred tree associated with the Buddha's birth), flanked by two monks with hands clasped in gesture of worship: "anjali mudra."
