This photograph may have been used for the purposes of finding a suitable match for marriage. Her hair has been darkened with a few extra wisps created with paint to frame her face, which has been lightened. The deep red of her sari contrasts with the green background, in keeping with the principles of complimentary colours to create an image meant to be pleasing to the eye.

This photograph is part of a series of photographs dating from 1900-1990. Some are painted photographic prints, while others are small studio photographs. Notably, many of the photographs are dated and signed by the photography studio, making them particularly rare as this type of information is often lacking from many archives.
