This pelike (jar) is decorated in red-figure technique. On one side is a scene showing two draped youths, one holding a lyre, standing on either side of an outdoor altar. One plays a lyre, which the other holds up his hand and turns away.
On the other side of the vase a bearded and draped man leaning on a staff offers a long red ribbon to a cloaked youth in a scene of courtship. Above them and very badly preserved is the painted inscription "kalos" ("beautiful").
This vase was attributed to the Severe style artist known as the Pig Painter by Beazley.
