The Roman Republican Household

Roman houses were sparsely furnished by modern standards. Much of what remains from them is not even furniture but rather the kitchen utensils of everyday use. Containers for water and wine, storage jars, and tableware were often made of clay or metal. These domestic items were relatively plain.
