DescriptionWheelmade pottery was popular in Messapia from about the 6th century BC, reflecting the absorption of Greek cultural influences in this part of Apulia. The most distinctive Messapian shape is the "Trozella" with its round bellied body and characteristic peaked strap handles with pairs of discs. This vase painted in the "brown figure style" with horse and rider copies Greek black-figure decoration.
