DescriptionThis portrait was done just before the couple immigrated to East Africa and settled within what in 1910 was the newly founded agricultural community of Eldoret, located just outside Nairobi, Kenya. They set up a general store, Allibhai & Sons, one of several establishments run by members of the growing Ismaili community there. This is an example of an enlargement worked over in monochromes that gives the effect of a painting and a black-and-white photograph at the same time.
