DescriptionThe decorative frieze on this Athenian wine cup (known as a kylix or band cup) shows one of the labours of Herakles. On one side  of the cup Herakles chases the Nemean Lion, flanked by a pair of sirens and a pair of palmettes. On the other side  Herakles attacks the Nemean Lion with his club, flanked by a pair of sirens, who look away, and a pair of palmettes.
