Coin Hoard from Egypt
This hoard of 197 billon (debased silver) tetradrachms contained in a small amphora was found in Egypt. It was likely buried shortly after AD 70. The coins were struck during the reigns of the Roman emperors Claudius (AD 41-54), Nero (AD 54-68), and Vespasian (AD 69-79). All coins were minted in Alexandria, Egypt. Many such hoards have been unearthed through farming activities, archaeological excavations, or metal-detecting searches. They were hidden in the ground for safe-keeping, but their owners never managed to return to retrieve them.
