Hunting in Ancient Rome

Romans hunted to safeguard their flocks from predators and to provide meat to supplement their diet. Hunting was also considered valuable for military training. For the upper class, it played an important role as a sport, and is represented on their cups and jugs. Scenes from the hunt were used as well in imperial and funerary symbolism.
