This photograph shows an image of a gentleman painted over with gouache paint. He is wearing a black jacket, white dhoti, black shoes and red hat. The subject is sitting on a chair with a table beside him topped with books, indicating he may have been a scholar. A very detailed job is done painting the man's face however everything else is not given due attention. There seems to have once been a mat, that is now removed leaving traces from the mat still visible around the whole image. The photographer and artist is unknown.

This photograph is part of a series of photographs dating from 1900-1990. Some are painted photographic prints, while others are small studio photographs. Notably, many of the photographs are dated and signed by the photography studio, making them particularly rare as this type of information is often lacking from many archives.
