DescriptionFrom about 425 to 400 BC the coinage of Syracuse reached great artistic heights. Die engravers proudly signed their names to their superb coins. This attractive and bold image of Arethusa, a neriad associated with water, springs and the city of Syracuse, was struck in high relief. Signed KIMΩN on the dolphin's body below Arethusa's neck.
