DescriptionCovers made of gold for sensitive parts of the body were provided for the mummies of both men and women in the Ptolemaic and Roman Imperial periods in Egypt. They were a "magical" protection against evil influences entering the body, and defence against the corruption of the flesh, perhaps partly due to the association of gold with Horus.
