DescriptionThe process of making a lamp from a mould is demonstrated by the lamp mould displayed here. Moist clay was pressed in the patterned moulds (the bottom mould is missing here), then the two halves were clamped together. As the clay dried and shrank, the moulds were taken apart. The wick and filling holes were punched through the half-dried clay and any surplus clay along the seam was trimmed.
