DescriptionAmong German-speaking settlers in the Waterloo area, complex weave blankets were popular and were exhibited with pride when taking the horse and carriage out in winter. Woven on a multiple shaft loom, such covers provided warmth and protection for the animal while waiting at church or in town. The owner’s initials ("E.M.") and the date are cross-stitched along the top edge.
