DescriptionIn the scene are five naked athletes, each named, and each preparing for a different sport. Olympiodoros holds boxer's thongs in his left hand, Megakles carries a pair of jumping weights, Spintharos holds a discus, Dion is preparing to run, and Pihtis holds a javelin. The names of some of the athletes (Olympiodoros, Megakles and Dion) have been found painted on other red-figure pottery of the same period. This vase is attributed to the Kephisophon Painter by Beazley.
