Schematized Votive Statuettes

These small Etruscan figurines were cut out of a flat, cast-bronze slab and shaped with a file. Eyes and navels were punch-marked, while the mouth, hands, and feet were marked by notches. The legs are pointed for insertion into a base. The figures’ outstretched arms suggest a devotional pose: they were probably dedicated by rural people in small sanctuaries.
