DescriptionTiraz textile fragment, perhaps a turban cloth. Undyed linen tabby with monumental inscription band in black silk. Warp fringe along bottom. Above fringe, 2 bands across the width, originally with plain coloured silk weft (some remains of yellow). The elongated tails of some letters give an elegant and majestic radiance to the textile. The inscription can be read [Bismillah al-Raḥman] al-Raḥīm, lā illaha illā  Allah, wa-ṣalā Allahu ʿalā...] (“In the name of Allah the Merciful, the Compassionate, there is no God but Allah, may Allah pray for…”).
