DescriptionIn this artistic rendering of simple kufic, the vertical staffs are elongated but there are no superlative flourishes. The inscription names the Abbasid Caliph al-Muqtadir and identifies the place of manufacture as Baghdad (called Madinat al-Salam, “City of Peace”). The artist signed his name above the final words: Muhammad, son of Abbas.
