The roughly-carved hair, the well-modelled smooth surfaces, and the deeply-set eyes formed by the projecting brow recall male sculptural types popular from the late 4th century BC onwards, exemplified in the work of Praxiteles – the most renowned sculptor of late Classical Greece.
