DescriptionIn the Philippines, stitch-resist was practiced in historic times only by women in the uplands of Mindanao Island. This pair of men’s trousers shows their perfection of the art. The delicate designs were made by folding the cloth and tightly stitching it with wax thread to resist the bold brick-red dye and expose the natural fibre. The added embroidery and openwork make it a unique work of art.
