This rare rebozo is a tour de force as lettering in tie-dye is extremely hard to achieve. Dated 1831, it proudly proclaims the independence of Zacatecas: SEPTIEMVRE 16 / VIVAELSUPREMOGOVIERNODEL / ESTADO / LIVRE / DE ZACATECAS / VIYANUEVA ANO DE 1831 (SEPTEMBER 16 / LONG LIVE THE SUPREME GOVERNMENT OF THE / FREE / STATE / OF ZACATECAS / NEW TOWN YEAR OF 1831). Some of the words are separated by animal or bird figures. Knotted fringes form points at both ends.
