DescriptionThis wedding vase (loutrophoros) shows the bride and groom with seven female attendants, and perhaps the bride and her mother on the neck. In Athens, such jars were traditionally used to collect water for the nuptial bath from the sacred spring Enneakrounos. They were also placed on the tombs of men and women who died unmarried. This vase is attributed to Polygnotos as painter by Beazley.
