The blue hand-embroidered designs on this blouse, done in running stitch to form birds, plants in pots, and other stylized forms, are specific to this region. For generations, women have passed on these patterns through samplers they made as girls. The red areas of whirlpool patterning, made with a sewing machine, are more modern in style.
