DescriptionBoth sides of this page from an artist's notebook show sketches of a noble on a rearing horse, profiles of men and a woman, and figures of a young and old man standing in profile. These may have been preparatory drawings for a larger work, copies from an existing painting, or simply experimental renderings. Sketchbooks reveal a certiain freedom of expression that the controlled nature of finsihed paintings hardly ever show. Nonetheless, the strong dark outline of each figure that is characteristic of artists in the Jodhpur court is apparent in these sketches, as is the accomplished rendering of facial hair by arist's in the Jodhpur court.
