Description

Venus Draped in a Chiton and a Himation

This type of statue was adapted by the Romans from earlied Hellenistic statues of Aphrodite for their representations of a draped Venus. The thin chiton (a fine tunic) clinging to her body contrasts effectively with the rich deep folds of the himation (a mantle).
