DescriptionSet of insignia badges for the front and back of the pufu (overcoat) of a 3rd rank civil official with peacock motif. Greyish-black silk twill ground with design embroidered in silk floss and gold thread in satin stitch and couching. Peacock in circular form with head turned to the left; bird in couched silk and satin stitch with tail of couched peacock feathers; bird resting on mound sparsely couched with peacock feathers. Large billows and clumps of clouds in satin stitch are worked over outline of couched thread. Background filled with couched gold thread. Border of brocaded blue silk with fret motif in gold thread. Front halves sewn together.
